This project was a challenge to myself to create a photorealistic courtyard using full CG.

Several years ago, while walking in the downtown Soulard district in St. Louis, Missouri, I came across this neglected courtyard.
The ivy took control of every corner. Flowers were replaced by ordinary green weeds.
The most striking feature was how the light struck the wall of ivy and flower pot.
This is what I hoped to replicate with this project.


I took pictures of several courtyards in Savannah for reference, and generated my own textures from them.
